Learn the Secrets of Skateboarding

I’ve just come across one amazing guide that has made skateboarding SO MUCH EASIER and more fun for me!

I loved to skate anyway, but with my talent (or lack of it) I was pretty much reduced to just skateboarding around the streets where I live.

Now I’ve used this “Secrets of Skateboarding” guide I have really dramatically improved my skills on the board as well as getting much more out of skateboarding.

I can actually do tricks now!

Before, I was barely even able to kickflip and now, with the help of the “Secrets of Skateboarding” guide, I have learnt SO MUCH MORE.

If you are the same as me and are taking FOREVER to learn tricks, check out the “Secrets of Skateboarding” guide, it really does take the complexities out of learning to skate.

GO PRO - Start Your Career in Skateboarding the Right Way!

I’ve come across this incredibly informative guide that teaches you the ins-and-outs of becoming a professional skateboarder.

I bought this guide with the intention of using its’ teachings to further my skateboarding career - (I must admit though that I am a ‘below average’ skateboarder [I think what I'm trying to say is that I SUCK])!

Anyway, even though I sort-of knew I wouldn’t be turning pro, I still wanted to learn the techniques involved.  The best part of this guide for me was the awesome advice and tips section from experts in skateboarding like Ryan Schekler, Paul Rodriguez and Mark Appleyard!  I learned SO MUCH from this section of the guide without even looking through the sponsors section - (the reason the guide was created in the first place)!

To turn pro you need to have SOME talent AT LEAST right!?!  The Advice and Tips section helps you in this respect!

You also need sponsors - after getting around to reading the rest of it (instead of just trying out the experts tips and techniques) - this guide has a thorough, up-to-date list FULL of contacts for the top sponsors in skateboarding and the MAJOR skateboarding teams’ contact information.

Make a nuisance of yourself (sorry; I meant name for yourself) and get in touch with them using the contact list provided in this guide.  Make sure they pay attention to you as well with the cool techniques taught that are designed to highlight your name above ALL others!

Check it out here to get more information - GO PRO - just click the link provided for more information.

What Skateboard Should You Buy? - Old School Skateboards? Longboard Skateboards? - Which is Right For You?

The Old School Skateboards Blog has the sole intention of bringing skateboarding to the masses and one of the most inportant aspects of skateboarding is to find and use the right skateboard.

I myself am not going to write about this topic as I really can’t put it better than the web page I’m going to link to in this post.  Check out below for the link.

If your new to skateboarding I will emphasis a point made on the site I’m linking to…

Buying a complete skateboard may be the way for you to go.  If you are new to the sport and you don’t know much about how to put a skateboard together or you don’t know which the best makes of the different parts are; buy complete!

Here’s the link;

Buying the Right Skateboard For You

If however you’re checking this out because your kids are looking to get into skateboarding, you want the best for them at the right price, correct?!?

Check out this link;

Buyers Guide for Skateboards for New and Young Skateboarders

One note to make - you may be thinking of buying your kids cheap skateboards for economic reasons.  The only issue with these cheap skateboards is that they are more likely to break, and break quickly.

That effectively means that these cost-effective skateboards actually end up costing you more money than you intended because you will need to re-buy.

Read the following article for more information;

Are Cheap Skateboards OK to Buy and Ride?

I hope this has helped you out in your search for the best skateboard for you.

Skateboarding Niche a Success!

I’ve just read a story from Melody Finnemore of The Oregonian that surprised me.

It says that Troy Moore (skateboarder and snowboarder) was becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of equipment available to his young kids.  This frustration ended when Troy and his wife made the move and set-up their own Skate Shop specifically for young kids - Gromshop in downtown Gresham.

Troy says this situation was really frustating because; “So many young kids are into skateboarding… it’s growing every year”.

While we all know this to be true, the part that surprised me most was the fact that catering to the youth in terms of providing them with skateboarding equipment has largely gone uptapped as a business venture.

Surely that’s where the money is!

If you manage to built a strong brand or store relationship with skateboarders at an early age they will more than likely stay with you throughout their skateboarding exploits; (and if they happen to turn pro you will probably get some FREE publicity out of it)!

I was so surprised by this story that it even made me think about opening up a skate shop for the younger generation where I live.  I know for a fact that THERE IS NOTHING here - not even much for the adult skateboarders!  Let’s see where this goes - (It’ll probably end up not going ANY further than this; just like the rest of my ideas)!!!

We Want Skateboarding In The Olympics - Old School Skateboards, Longboard Skateboards; Just Get Them In!!!

It seems thst there is more talk on the subject of getting skateboarding into the Olympics for future Games.

Marc Allard of the Norwich Bulletin has written that pro skateboarder Donny Barley claims that there are movements afoot to get skateboarding into the Olympics!

While I am agreat advocator of getting skateboarding into future Olympic Games, I can see some downsides to it…

Granted, skateboarding is a professional sport now - in fact people are able to get into business selling such things as guides to become a professional skateboarder; GO PRO is an example of this.

The issue is that skateboarding was ‘invented’ as an activity (not a sport) where you could just simply grab your board and do what you want!  There is no structure to what you must do!  There IS NO what you must do!!!

If skateboarding does get admitted into the Olympics in the future, will this create the wrong kind of image.

Will kids watching skateboarding at the Olympics who want to start skateboarding themselves do so to the rules that the Olympic Commitee sets.  If this turns out to be the case then they would lose out on the point of skateboarding as a whole - to have fun and express yourself in your own way - NOT to the beat of a Commitees’ drum.

I’m also not sure what skateboarding events could be included in the Olympics.  Standard skateboarding events that are seen at the X-Games may not be suitable to the Olympics as these events would require ‘Expert Judges’ to make the rulings over who wins; (instead of it being a simple “Who’s faster” scenario).

My suggestions are to include Olympic style events such as “High-jump” - (basically who gets the most air of a vert ramp) and ”Sprint” or “Long distance” - (any board can be used for this as it’s a flatground event, so we could see old school skateboards up against longboard skateboards).

I would love to put in “Best trick” but; as said before; this would require expert judges and probably wouldn’t be possible - (to prove this look at what they did with the first inclusion of BMX in the Olympics this year - No Tricks At All)!

What are your thoughts on this issue?  For and Against - Start the debate!

Who Wants to See Old School Skateboards in the Olympics? -

Okay, I’ve got no say or influence in this matter but if enough people give their support here I’ll send this off to the IOC;

How many people want to see skateboarding at the Olympic games?  I know I for one would love to see old school skateboards at the Olympics.

Another idea would be a ‘Freestyle Skateboarding’ event - (much like the swimming freestyle event) - where competitors could enter on ANY board type - eg; longboard skateboards against old school skateboards!

Let’s get your opinions on this, and on ANY other events you want to see in the Olympics in the future!
